What Are You Counting On?
My text will come from Matthew 7:24-25. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Honestly and from the heart, when you die, what are you counting on to get you to Heaven?
Here in this passage of scripture the Lord Jesus Christ uses the example of a man that is counting on a rock to hold his house up verses sand. When the storms come the house that is built on a solid foundation will stand. The house that is built on sand will fall.
The Lord uses this story to illustrate two things. 1. What a man is counting on to get him to Heaven when he dies. You are either counting on the Lord Jesus as “the rock” or some other foundation that our Lord likens to sand. 2. What will get a man through the storms of life when they come, and they will come.
Today’s devotion we are focusing on the first point.
Sand foundations are many and varies such as money, fame, popularity, social acceptance, good works, giving to charities, doing the best that you can, being a good provider, being a good humanitarian, education, philosophy, science, and last but not least, religion.
These all have their place but will not get you into Heaven when you die. It is a person that paid for your sins. It is a person that you must call on to save you from your sins and Hell. It is a person that does the saving, not an object, idea, or philosophy. It is a person that will forgive you of your sins. It is a person that is the way to Heaven and that is the Lord Jesus Christ.
May God help you to count on the Lord Jesus Christ to get you to Heaven because he is the only one that can.
