Our text for today is from Mark 6:31. And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
This time of year my family would always get ready for vacation. We would go to Florida or Minnesota on most of our trips and it would be an exciting time for all of us from the time we would get up at 4 in the morning till the time we would start back home. It was a break from the everyday hustle and routine. Everyone needs this once in a while.
In our text, the Lord tells his disciples to get away for a while because they were busy in dealing with the constant crowds. They didn’t even have time to eat right.
It reminds me of many that work such long hours and go without proper sleep, and without eating proper that they get run down and loose their resistance to colds and flu. There is a time to work and a time to rest. If you are overworked take time for rest also. It will help you when you do return to work with a better attitude and outlook. Don’t get so bogged down that you loose your reason for working. Money can’t buy love, joy, and happiness. You need to come away from the daily routine and get your mind on something else beside your everyday work schedule.
Give yourself a break.
If Jesus thought his disciples needed a time for rest then you do too.
