Too Late to Prune
Our text is from Is. 5:6. And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.
The context is about what the Lord had to say about his people. They were likened to a grape vine that should have produced good fruit but instead they had gotten backslidden and would not behave themselves. They got all hung up with the cares of this world, the lusts of other things, and the deceitfulness of riches. (Mark 4)
God had told them he had done everything that he could for them but they were like wild grape vines. So, the Lord said that he would take away the hedge of it so it would be trampled down to the ground and he would not prune the vine but let thorns and briers grow in it and also he would cause no rain to come down on it.
In other words God did all that he could for them but they were not interested in the least in spiritual things. All they wanted to do is live for self and do what they wanted to do.
May God help you to live for Him so you won’t be trampled down with the cares of this world.
