Too Late For Retirement
Our text for today is taken from Luke 12:19. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
Our text is taken from a parable given by the Lord Jesus Christ. He used this parable to illustrate that even though you may have great possessions in this world and are now ready to retire to enjoy those things, if you have nothing laid up for the world to come, you have lost out on everything.
Just this week, I had a co-worker to pass away just before retirement. He had a good pension from the armed forces and a good stash of assets over and above the average worker. He was ready for retirement…or was he? I don’t know if the man was saved. Only God knows, but if he was not, he was too late for retirement. That is, he passed on without getting ready for retirement in eternity. He died before he could plan his retirement there. Now it’s too late for him to do anything about it.
There are many that make this mistake. They plan their whole lives for when they can retire and never live to see it.
Friend don’t you do this. Now is the time to plan for your eternal retirement. Don’t wait until you die because then it will be too late.
12:20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 12:21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
