Today Is All You Have
Our text for today will come from Matthew 6:34. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Most of us like to plan ahead for events such as school, a job, a sports event, or a vacation. Most don’t just up and go somewhere or do something on a spare of the moment decision. We make plans for the future; however we never stop and think that we are making plans for a day that is not guaranteed. We assume that we will live tomorrow or next week or some other time in the future but we don’t have that day for sure.
Whenever someone asks me if I am going to do something in the future I try to remember to say, “Lord willing” because of these verses in James 4:14-15. Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
You don’t have next week, next month, next year, or even tomorrow but you do have today and even then you are not guaranteed the whole day.
Today is all you have so live it like it’s your last and live it for God.
