Things Money Can't Buy
Our text today is from Psalm 49:6-7. 6. They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; 7. None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
The Psalmist takes time out in this Psalm to discuss money, and what it can’t buy. It can’t buy honor, love, character, loyalty, joy, friends (real), blessings, good health, life, spirituality and spiritual power, answers to prayer, and a close walk with God. Most of all, it can’t buy your way into Heaven. That’s what our text is about. Notice it says that even if you have wealth and trust that it can do anything, it can’t. One of the things listed in the text is redemption of a brother. Only God can redeem him with a price that is most costly. (Read the whole Psalm). How costly?
So if you come into a lot of money, and I hope you do and can handle it, thank God. But remember, money can’t buy the most important things.
It can’t buy your way to heaven. That has already been bought and paid for. You just need to get your name transferred on the deed. If you don’t, then you are in big trouble. May God help you to trust in God, not money.
