The Right Side
My text will come from John 21:6. And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
Just as the disciples, we sometimes take off on some plans of our own without ever seeking the Lord’s advice and counsel.
Here in our text the disciples went fishing and fished all night not catching anything. I know something about that. It’s no fun to fish all day and not catch anything.
In any case our text tell us that when they saw Jesus on the shore (he wasn’t in the boat with them—their first mistake) he asked them if they had caught anything and they let him know that they had not. He then gives them some good advice and with that they were successful.
To bad they didn’t get his advice first, if you know what I mean. They could have saved themselves a long night on a dry run.
So many times we have dry runs on our daily tasks, chores, and responsibilities. We should want Jesus to go with us and we should listen to his advice more often.
May God help us to “cast the net on the right side” which is seeking the Lord’s presence and advice and then we will be more successful.
