The Fourth Man

My text will come from Daniel 3:24-25. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.

He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

This is the famous story of the 3 men that were cast in the fiery furnace. Nebuchadnezzar had given the order that when the music started playing the people were to bow down to the image that he had set up. Anyone refusing to do so would be cast into a fiery furnace.

So the 3 men Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego told the king that they would not bow down to the image. That would be against the 2nd commandment. The king was furious and he gave the order that they should be cast into the furnace. While they were in there God gave them special protection and grace. They were not hurt by the extreme heat and they were not alone for the Lord himself was in there with them.

The king looked in the fire and saw the fourth man. Praise God! The king said that the fourth man looked like the Son of God.

The lesson to us is clear.

Whatever you are going through--the fourth man (The Lord Jesus Christ) is there with you also.

Don’t ever forget that.
