The First Christmas Gift
My text for today will come from John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
It is said of God that he first loved us in 1st John 4:19, so it just stands to reason that God is the one who gave the world the first Christmas gift, his love gift wrapped up in human flesh. We celebrate this on December 25 each year.
Although no one knows the exact date of the birth of the Lord Jesus, our text says that God gave his only begotten Son to us so that we could have eternal life. This is why we give gifts to one another at Christmas time; because God started it. Many carry on the tradition and don’t know why. Now you know.
Because of this gift we now can once again have fellowship with God, but that fellowship only comes through the Son of God, not good works, not baptism, not going to church, not being good, and not doing the best you can.
This is what Christmas is all about. It is the celebration of the 1st coming of the Lord Jesus to this earth to save his people from their sins.
