That Will Never Happen To Me
Our text today is from 1st Corinthians 10:12. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
I am writing this devotion from personal experience.
Our text indicates that when we think that we are in good shape and standing tall, that’s when we are apt to fall and make a big mess, especially when we get proud about it. When you get high and mighty, watch-out! That’s when you are apt to fall.
Notice Humpty Dumpty in the illustration.
The Bible says that “Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18.
Often we look at others and events and think to ourselves, “that will never happen to me.” We may see some unfortunate soul experiencing health issues, trials, heavy loads, and full of problems and we may think, “That will never happen to me.”
Reader, don’t ever say or think this. It may be that some of these things may never happen to you personally but it may happen to you through your kids or someone close to you.
Give thanks for what you have and have not, but don’t ever get so proud that you think that you are so special that trials won’t come to you. They will. If they haven’t happened yet, “just keep on liv’in” as one preacher used to say.
Our text is a clear warning of what can happen to you. Trust the Lord and ask him to deliver you from temptation. It may be that he will have grace on you, but if not, there is a reason for your trial and that is something that you and the Lord will have to work out.
May God give you grace for the days ahead.
Stay humble, stay close to the Lord…and don’t ever say,
“THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO ME“
