Listening for the Trumpet
Our text today is drawn from 1st Thessalonians 4:16-17. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
From our text we see that when the Lord comes he will descend with a shout and a blast of a trumpet. It uses the word ‘trump’ which is a sound that a trump makes. The point is when he comes for the saved there will be no doubt to us what is happening. He will call us up by our name. It is personal and directive. It will be an absolute and divisive calling. That is, we that are saved go up and those that are not saved will be left behind.
What a grand day that will be when the Savior gives us a call and we will not be out of range.
Friend, when you begin your day today remember, you will hear a lot of things from the start of your day to the end of your day, but I hope you will be listening for the trumpet...
because it may be today.
