Just One Man
My text will come from Jeremiah 5:1. Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.
Here in this passage the Lord is telling Jeremiah that if he could find just one man that honestly wanted the truth and that was doing right in Jerusalem that he would pardon it despite their rebellion, disobedience, evil, idolatry, backsliddenness, waywardness, and hard hearts. Guess what? He couldn’t find just one man. That’s all it would have taken to keep them from going into captivity. But there was none to be found.
When I read this passage in Jeremiah I think about America. No doubt we have the same problem that Jeremiah had in finding just one man. I wonder how many men or women in our country really want the truth and really want justice and righteousness? Are there any out there?
From our text we learn a great lesson. It perhaps may not take great numbers. It may only take just one person to make a difference. It may only take just one man to keep judgment from falling on thousands or perhaps millions.
in some cases it takes only just one man to rise up and do the right thing that will change everything.
Are you such a person?
