It Wasn't Much

Our text for today is from 2 Corinthians 4:17. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

A man by the name of Job, probably suffered as much as any saint in the entire Bible outside of Jesus Christ himself. He had lost his family, possessions, friends, status, job, and even his health and security. The devil was afflicting him, his wife was ridiculing him, and his friends criticizing him.

According to our text for today, perhaps someone will pass by him in Heaven and ask him what it was like down there suffering all his afflictions. His response will be something like, “Awe, it wasn’t much.” It’s hard to believe or imagine this, but in Heaven we will see things from a different perspective. We will see for the first time, the big picture. Down here we only see a small piece of the picture.

Your trials and testings, sufferings and afflictions, hurts and heartaches, and difficult days won’t be compared with what you will enjoy in Heaven.

You see, if it was not for the afflictions down here you wouldn’t appreciate the glory up there. You might not even think about Heaven. Many have their own so called ‘Heaven’ here and now, and are really not interested in Heaven above, so… the Lord knows how to get them interested in Heaven above; by sending them some afflictions down here.

Then one day you will perhaps respond the way Job did when one asks you what it was like during your afflictions while on earth. Your response will be:

It wasn’t much.
