It is Finished--But it is not the End
My text will come from John 19:30. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Our text tells us that when the Lord Jesus Christ died he said it was finished. That is, everything that was necessary to redeem us from our sins and to get us to Heaven was done. God’s wonderful plan of redemption needed nothing or anything added to it. It was finished and completed then our Lord died.
Here looks like the end for our Lord but for him it was not the end it was just the beginning. Three days later he arose from the grave and defeated death in order to give us life everlasting. We that are saved now have eternal life as well.
One day soon the Lord will return for his bride (the saved) and he will call us by name and we will be caught up in the clouds to meet him and we shall ever be with the Lord. What a great event to look forward to!
The Lord died to pay for our sins but that was not the end—it was only the beginning.
His work on the cross was finished but the results of it are never ending.
