If Looks Could Kill
Our text will come from Luke 22:61. And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
Here is probably one of Simon Peters’ most heart rending, heart breaking, and solemn moments. He has just denied the Lord and now he is watching the Lord as the Romans take him to be judged and condemned. Peter is outside warming himself by a fire. As the Lord is being led by the mob Jesus turns and looks at Peter, a look that Peter no doubt never forgot.
If looks could kill!
As a figure of speech, I’m sure that when our Lord turned and looked at Peter it killed his soul. Don’t you know he had a hard time sleeping that night? Don’t you know he did some tossing and turning?
The Bible states that after the unforgettable look of Jesus, Peter went out and wept bitterly as most of us would.
If the Lord turned and looked at you, how would you feel? Would you feel shame and regret or would you feel confident that you are right with God?
If the Lord were to turn and look at you, would you be found living and serving Jesus or would you have a long night of weeping?
