Dreadful Days Ahead
My text is from Job 3:25. For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.
No matter how good we have it and we might even state that life is good, and all is well, but there will come a time when life will throw you for a loop. Whether you are expecting it or not, the difficult days will come. It’s not a matter of “if” but “when.”
Job was a great man and a good man. He prayed for his kids and sacrificed for them also. He served God when it was not popular. He served the Lord inspite his not so pleasant wife. From man’s standpoint he didn’t have any faults. Even the devil couldn’t find anything wrong with him, nevertheless one day trouble came to Job, and that is understating the matter. He lost his possessions, family, friends, status, and even his own health.
Job evidently knew that evil days could come to someone with his status and health because he states, “the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me.” He knew the difficult days were coming and he dreaded them. He was afraid of the time when he would have to go thru his difficult days. They are not pleasant.
I have older parents and I know the day is coming that I will have to say good-bye to them. I dread it. Death is a part of life but it is not the part we rejoice about. The glory to follow is something to look forward to, but the death of our loved ones is a dreadful thought.
We must remember that the Lord is with us and will be with us till the end. It is good to know that we will not be alone when the dreadful days come. Our Lord went thru some dreadful days of his own. The day he was betrayed, forsaken, mistreated, shamed, crucified, and became payment for our sins. Truly they were dreadful days. His own father turned his back on him. That would be tough in itself. If Jesus went thru them, Job went thru them, Paul went thru them, family and friends go thru them, then we will go thru dreadful days. They made it thru their dreadful days and if we keep our eyes on the author and finisher of our faith we will make it thru our dreadful days also.
I didn’t say it would be easy but as we go thru the difficult days remember the song
It is Well with My Soul that says,
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul. Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control, That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And hath shed His own blood for my soul.
Count the dreadful days as a learning experience that you use to help someone else when they go thru their dreadful days.
