Don't Go Back
Our text is from Deuteronomy 17:16.– But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.
Moses and the children of Israel were given explicit instructions for the future days. When they were to enter into the land that God had promised them and choose a king, the king was not to do certain things; for example, get horses from Egypt so they could brag about the victories they won thru Egypt and their supplies. God would deliver them and God wanted the glory for the deliverance. The horses were not to be given the glory for any victories. In addition to those things, God told them they were not to return back to Egypt because they had been delivered from that country that had enslaved them for centuries.
The lesson is clear to us today. If God has delivered you from some kind of enslavement whether vice or sin, don’t return there again. You will only be enslaved to it again. Keep moving forward.
If you go back to the former life or things you were doing, it will be just that, going back.
Don’t go back.
