Do What You Can
My text will come from 1st Chronicles 22:5. So David prepared abundantly before his death.
For the sake of space and time I just quoted part of the verse.
Here in this context David wanted to build a house for God but because he was a man of war, the Lord wouldn’t allow it but he did allow his son, Solomon to build it, which he did. But not being discouraged, David did what he could while he could. In the verses preceding our text David prepared the building materials etc. for the building of the house of God. He did what he could.
I heard one time a celebrity make a statement due to his health issues that I’ve never forgotten that has been a source of encouragement to me. Perhaps not an exact quote but he said, “I don’t focus on things that I can’t do; but I focus on things that I can do.”
The lesson to us is clear. You may not be able to do a whole lot but do what you can while you can. Just as David did what he could right up to the time of his death he was doing what he could. Because of this he was a great encouragement to those left to do the job that he couldn’t.
May you do what you can for the Lord.
