Burn Your Bridges
Our text will come from Deauteronomy 17:16. But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.
Just before the children of Israel were to cross over Jordon to go into the Promised Land the Lord gave them some final instructions and guide lines they were to follow.
One of the things in our text is the fact that after centuries of being in bondage in Egpyt they had been freed from bondage and they were told not to go back there, in other words, “Burn your bridges.” This saved them from any chance of going back under Egyptian slavery.
That’s a good reminder for us.
Whenever you get tempted to go back to some place that will take you down spiritually “burn your bridges.”
