A Mind To Work
My text will come from Nehemiah 4:6. So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.
In this context the children of Israel had been given permission to go back home and begin building Jerusalem of which was destroyed some 70 years earlier.
When they get there Nehemiah surveys the situation by night and they begin to repair the walls of the city. After a short period of time they encounter opposition. This is what happens where the work of the Lord is concerned. There is always someone around that has something to say about it.
This is where our text comes in.
They ignored their opponents and consecrated themselves to the work at hand. They made their mind up that they were going to finish the project and would not allow to be distracted.
The lesson to us is clear. Make your mind up to work for God and don’t get sidetracked, distracted, derailed, or slowed down by your opponents.
If you start something for God, finish it with a Mind to Work.
