And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. Mark 6:31.
Our text is from the time of Christ’s earthly ministry when he was healing folks and raising them from the dead. After a short period of time word has gotten around and they were soon thronged by the great crowds. No doubt after several weeks of this Jesus and the disciples grew weary and tired perhaps going many nights without much sleep so after a certain point the Lord tells them that it’s time for a break.
There are times when you may get tired and you need a break also. Many put in long hours at work and then come home only to find more things to be done there. So we push ourselves to the point of breaking by loosing our tempers or saying something that we shouldn’t or doing something we shouldn’t. It is truly a time for a get-away because everyone needs rest once in a while. The Lord knew this, that’s why in the Old Testament he made one day of rest to be observed each week called the Sabbath. So what do we do? We ignore this until our health breaks down and then we find ourselves in a condition that we have to rest. That’s about all you can do in a hospital bed apart from vital checks every 30 minutes.
God wants us to take a break once in a while so you will be refreshed. It also helps your mental attitude as well.
Just as we need physical rest we also need spiritual rest. This can only be found in Jesus. It’s in Jesus when you will find satisfaction and contentment. You don’t have to keep searching for something else to get peace and rest. Religion can’t provide peace and rest. Education can’t provide it, nor can science. In Jesus and Jesus alone will you find true peace and rest.
Jesus is the only one that can give rest to your souls.
May God help you to find Jesus so you can find rest.
